Screenvision Expands Digital Advertising Network through New Multi-Year Agreement with Carmike Cinemas
New York - (Oct. 3, 2006)
Screenvision to Utilize 2K Cinema Advertising Solutions Paralleling Carmike’s Digital Cinema Rollout
Screenvision, the global leader in cinema advertising, has expanded its relationship with Columbus, Ga.-based Carmike Cinemas (NASDAQ: CKEC), the nation’s fourth largest exhibitor. As part of the agreement, Screenvision will use its technological compatibility and flexibility to display its highdefinition digital preshow through Carmike’s newly-installed 2K-level digital projection systems. The partnership with Carmike Cinemas, which operates 292 theatres in 37 states, increases Screenvision’s digital preshow distribution by at least 2,000 screens and up to 2,300 screens nationwide.
The new agreement with Carmike will boost Screenvision’s total number of digital screens featuring its preshow to nearly 6,000. With theatres in 37 States and 105 DMAs, the addition of Carmike will expand Screenvision’s digital network coverage to 43 of the top 50 DMAs and 127 of all 210 DMAs. The rollout of Screenvision’s digital network in subsequent years is expected to surpass more than 10,000 screens of the company’s total of nearly 14,400 screens nationwide.
“Carmike is a pioneer in the exhibition community, and it is leading the way in technological innovation,” said Matthew Kearney, CEO of Screenvision. “This partnership illustrates Screenvision’s ability to support exhibitors with leading-edge cinema advertising solutions as our advertising server is compatible with digital cinema projection systems designed to exhibit feature films.”
Screenvision can support any digital cinema projection system, including those deployed by such companies as Technicolor Digital Cinema and AccessIT. This provides complete flexibility for exhibitors keen to benefit from cinema advertising revenues as they deploy digital cinema installations. Carmike Cinemas is currently installing Christie/AIX projection systems.
“We are looking forward to working with Screenvision to enhance our customers’ movie going experiences with this engaging preshow program, while securing new revenue opportunities,” said Michael W. Patrick, chairman of the board, president and CEO of Carmike Cinemas. “Now we are part of Screenvision’s digital network; backed by Screenvision’s excellent salesforce, we anticipate that advertising will be a more important contributor of future revenue.”
Screenvision’s high-definition digital network allows exhibitors to present Screenvision’s unique, entertainment-based digital preshow. Screenvision is the first cinema advertising company to create a hosted format for the presentation of cinema advertising content. This hosted format creates a seamless presentation of a variety of content forms, including branded entertainment, short films, cartoons and advertising content.
“Carmike Cinemas is an exceptional exhibitor with well-positioned theatres throughout the United States,” explained Darryl Schaffer, executive vice president of exhibitor relations at Screenvision. “We are delighted they have selected our popular preshow for their audiences, which will contribute to an even more dynamic movie-going experience, increase advertisers’ options in key markets, and offer additional revenue opportunities for the exhibitor.”
The high-definition network and server technology also facilitates the screening of original and alternative content, such as film series, children’s programming, anime programming, and live sports broadcasts. As part of the company’s overall digital strategy, Screenvision also developed and launched the concept of preshow specials, including “Screenvision’s Summer Music,” “Screenvision Brings You The Beat,” and “SCREAMvision.” The concept of preshow specials is exclusive to Screenvision.
